•  Stone masonry was started when people came to know about the use of quicklime. They slowly learned about plastering, mortars. They started to use this to make homes with mud, stone and straw.
•  The first stone structures that can be seen are some of the long-lasting monuments. Egyptian pyramids, roman roads and constructions, Persian palaces and step pyramids are a perfect example of these elegant architectures.
•  Due to religious favours by 12th-century thousands of stone constructions were made. These include churches and cathedrals. After the Norman Conquest castle building got its place as an entirely different industry.
•  This is the reason medieval stonemasons were high in demand and three classes of stonemasons were placed such as apprentices, journeymen and master masons.
•  Apprentices used to get paid in food, clothing and lodging until they became journeymen. Journeymen used to assist master masons and master masons used to work as patrons and work freely.
•  After the renaissance, the stone masonry made a comeback to the classical age. Italy was the pioneer in this rise of stone masonry or stone work fitting. But it changed completely in the 20th century. With the use of power tools and equipment, the work now became faster, smoother and more efficient.
